Designing a poster - the very basic principles for clarity and aesthetics.

The Principles of Design are focusing on the relationships of the elements of design to each other in order to create a useful and beautiful final unitary product. So think about harmony, rhythm and emphasis encircled in the concepts of information flow and aesthetics.

The old school rules in poster graphic design (isn't that nice.... but it's lame! )

A color scheme of one or two colors

Consistent Alignment

The use of text boxes

The poster should be arranged in columns

The font size should be 24pt to larger typefaces, as 28pt

Black text on white backgrounds.

Now think about some principles from visual neuroscience or whatever you want: the pop-up effect, color contrast and the role of colors in visual perception. An alignment of the poster elements based on boxes does not create an aesthetic visual rhythm, but only a fragmented understanding, the columns never guarantee an information flow that helps perception and the font size should be relative to the poster dimensions... so 24pt text on a A0 poster or an A3 poster has different visibility properties. Poster Graphics Design Principles and Pictures

The eye is always drawn first to the pictures on the poster.

First the central image or graphic, then the captions. After this attention catch, the consumer will look for the headlines and sub-headings. Use nice typo!

Put in the poster headlines some detail about the subject of your work or event.

Professional poster printing is important! Destroy a poster by using low-quality support!

Now remember that:

Good design is innovative, so step away from the boring "safe design area".

Good design makes the poster useful, so create an information/perception flow.

Good design makes the information understandable, so integrate graphs and text, not just intercalate graphs and text.

Good design means beauty, and beauty means success!

Good design is long lasting, be sure that you'll be proud of your poster now and five years from now. To be sure of that, get help from a professional graphic designer with some experience in the field.

Graphic Design 3D render - The Coffeemaker

I build 3D models and scenes from sketch to full 3D animation that can be used in posters, wallpapers, book covers, web sites, magazines, animations, and interactive flash projects.

About this project:

Coffeemakers are cooking appliances used to brew coffee without having to boil water in a separate container. The very first machine for making espresso coffee was built and patented by Mr. Angelo Moriondo of Turin, Italy. A steam-driven unit operates by forcing water through the coffee by using steam or steam pressure. An espresso machine can be Steam-driven, Piston-driven, Pump-driven and so on. Here I created a Futuristic Espresso Machine Concept, in a 3d rendered scene, with a few post processing adjustments to the colors. It combines the cup and the coffee machine. The coffee machine or the Sci Fi Espresso machine, has two main parts, one for fine processing of the coffee beans, where the coffee is enhanced with different flavors, the final product being then passed through a spiral, to take some air :) , and then it goes to the main body of the 3D coffee maker, where the coffee gets its final taste. The futuristic 3D coffee maker has an angel like (or maybe just a lady with wings) part not just for aesthetic reasons, but it is also a functional part of my 3D coffee maker - see all that tubes. A poster I made for my (book) novel - Secunde de grafit (in Romanian) - meaning "Seconds made of graphite" which is the story of Ray, a graphic artist, who lost his memory in an accident. The story (which is fiction) talks about reinventing his life and how he manages to find new sources of inspiration after that tragic moment.

I made for each author, for free, a few book cover options, and let them choose the one they considered to reflect best the book content. They informed the Publishing House about their final options. I do not work at that publishing house, but I am a friend of the manager. All the books belong to the literary field. In this post: Author: Nicolae Iliescu, Book: Priveste dincolo de tine (Look Beyond Yourself) and Olivia Sgarbura - Jocul Orb (The Blind Game) published by Editura Pamantul (Pamantul Publishing House) . The image on the front cover was made in 3D. The pictures of the authors on the back cover were provided by the authors and processed by me. The entire design belongs to me.

Scientific Presentation Intro in After Effects I made as a demo . I consider that

many presentations lack the eye catching effect, making the auditory to look

at boring slides. Think about a movie without post-processing, or a magasine

without design or a journal with images draw by hand in hurry! you will not

appreciate it! The same with a presentation -- a good intro will turn the

attention toward you! Every speaker should pay special attention to the design

or ask a proffesional designer to evaluate (or create ) the presentation.

It is all about style! :)

Dreams cam be build by many combinations of substances in every human brain, or more, dreams can take place in other living thing. A laboratory can underline this by experiments, but something magical must be present for a dream to became alive. In this way, in Dream Alchemy Laboratory i wanted to combine the idea of substances and mixtures (in life) that create a dream, but also, the atmosphere in this "laboratory" is somehow magical, somewhere between melancholy and desire. A "peaceful tension" lies on the instruments, putting life into the cold experiment design. More over, the lab coud be just an interface, to human dreams that take place in the "peaceful tension" of this Dream Alchemy Laboratory.

This page shows how the "embed image" option we created works in a html page. This option can be found in posts that contain images we allow to be shared, as here, in the end of the post. An example of this option can be found here .
In this way you can include images from this blog on your site, or on your blog posts, using the capabilities of "enlarge image" and without working to put credits and so on (because this are already written). Just copy and paste the code as provided here It is very similar to the "embed" used by Youtube, but provided in 2 designs, one wich lets you embed the image itself + the credits for the image (jpeg + link) and the second one (Design 2) is a flash display of the image. Dream Fairy

Simple Dream Fairy. Generally a fairy is represented with wings and a ray of glowing little sparks. I think a fairy has to be somehow different from the Disney representations... because a fairy has to do serious work! :)

Image name: Echoes of the past

The main idea was to create an image, somewhere between a movie poster and a game screen shot. I used the idea of a phantom in a slidely different way, this meaning that she has the classic "white blur", but the foggy representation doesn't obscure the feminine characteristics. The beautiful body is constructed in opposite with the hair and even with the face, and also, the hair and her power - the fire - are constructed in different directions. This could be interpreted in many ways ... you choose :) I find interesting to associate the image of a foggy ghost (white, immaterial) with the fire (red, immaterial), both volatile and mobile. The shadow in the right down corner is in contrast with the main character, but underlines somehow the idea of the image. Enjoy it! :)

wild attitude 3D

I call this Wild attitude, but it's original name is The Wild Pack. I've wanted to keep it simple, just with two 3D characters. I used it as a wallpaper for a while. The design is simple to underline the effects of lights and the lines of the body of the main character.

This image is a part of a larger set of 3D works

called "A Part of You". I've ommited on purpose some human features - as colouring the eyes - to underline somehow the wild attitude or to underline the sensation of untouchable. You can compare this one with the woman warrior character I made for the Shadow Hunter Set

3D woman warrior - shadow hunter

The Shadow Hunter - let's say she is the main character of this serie. The story is : "Somewhere in the future. Around 2300 AC. Humakind trasformed into shadows. This changes start as an experiment, and over time more and more followers were recruited. Somewere, in a remote area, one population of humans remain unchanged. They turned back to ancient beliefs and modified their way of living until they became a tribe. A tribe that hunts shadows to survive....."

The character is made in 3D.

I tried to combine details from different cultures, focusing on the idea of tribal features. I wanted to capture in this character the idea of force, will and determination interconnected with the sensation of freshness and shyness. Even though the character is a part of an insecure future, I wanted her attitude to be a confident one. I think that ancient cultures were made of this kind of people, no matter their social statute. I think their confidence raised from their abilities to understand the "call of the wilderness" and from an inner peace, exempted from the rules of the "social war". I think they were becoming better and better in their skills because of an inner will, not because of a "need to"... In a future where humans are changing without knowing, as in the story, such a leader could make a remote tribe to rise against the rule, using ancient beliefs.

Si iata cum se face ca iarasi stam fata in fata, fiecare la balconul lui, despartiti numai de stradutza de trei metri latime. Si ce lumina intra printre cladirile noastre vecine si ce fotoni agitati umbla printre privirile noastre vecine si ce destindere placuta impartim deasupra stazii, cu trairi senine si vecine. Pacat ca nu ne vorbim, ne despart trei metri pe orizontala si trei pe verticala. O simetrie urbana perfecta, cu tencuiala ce incepe sa se incalzeasca in soare si strada cu pavajul de textura caramizilor, intre care cresc muschi mici si verzi, care, la aceasta ora, incep sa-si puna problema unei noi zile. Noi nu. Ne privim in contextul unei arhitecturi perfecte. Daca mi-ai fi spus macar o data un cuvant, poate ca as fi spus « eu nu, caci te privesc in contextul unei arhitecturi perfecte ». Pacat ca nu vorbim, mi-ar placea sa-mi dai fiori de sunet, decat mostre de revolte stinse in refractii, dincolo de geamuri. Iti mai aduci aminte de asta vara ? Iti trimiteam bilete printr-un pescarus. As fi putut sa le transform intr-un avion de hartie. Ar fi ajuns prea repede….Nu iti scriam decat « buna dimineata ». In multe feluri, cu litere de tipar, de mana, in graba sau doar schitat, hasurat sau ornat de cu seara cu linii abstracte. Le lasam pe balustrada balconului iar albul si urbanul pescarus le lua. Ti le aducea cu intarziere, poate dupa o saptamana sau doua. Erau insa mai frumoase caci nu mai miroseau a cerneala ci a mare, si in cateva randuri cred ca semnul exclamarii, pe care cateodata il mai uitam, era inlocuit de o alga, sau avea forma unui picior al vreunui ponton inconjurat de cochilii sau alta data iti aducea in locul biletului meu vreo frunza din ierburile de la malul marii. Uneori, cand iti scriam in fuga biletelul, pescarusul avea grija sa il orneze dupa noima frumosului pe care il cunoscuse el, lasand in urma navoade goale, sau subtiind funii de pescari, sau infigea in hartia biletului meu aschii de la barcile noi. Sunt sigur ca iti amintesti. Nu imi vorbesti, dar vad cum din priviri iti curg dune de nisip marin si galben, fiinta din spatele balustradei aramii ! Iti multumesc !. In fond, tot privitul acesta obliga vazul la o transhumanta uluitor de asincrona si organizata. O singura directie, mereu cu gandul la drumul de intoarcere, ce va avea loc maine,sau diseara, cumva asemenea drumurilor din campie, gata sa-ti arate cu doua ore inainte, dupa forma prafului, ce car sau bicicleta te va ajunge din urma.. Asa ne priveam noi. Iti amintesti de toate-acestea, in simetria matinala, perfect urbana, cu tencuiala ce incepe sa se incalzeasca in soare... si strada cu pavajul de textura caramizilor ? Eu cred ca da. Stiu asta pentru ca astazi nu te-ai mai jucat cu glezna in raza de soare care pantrundea prin usa maro si galbena a balconului tau. Ai tras perdelele larg, sa te scalde intreaga lumina a distantei noastre de trei metri si urbana, lumina sa patrunda spumos in valuri galbene , recurente si contorsionate, asemenea apei cand rupe ,tulbure, zagazurile iazurilor. Stiu sigur ca ti-ai amintit. Mi-am dat seama cat de frumos e sa te privesc . Insa ceasul asta bate in saisprezecimi rebele, si ticaitul limbilor lui s-a transformat intr-un monitor al batailor inimii mele. Pacat ca nu ne vorbim si ce bucurie sa impartim aceasta destindere deasupra strazii, intr-un volum despartitor de trei pe trei.
